5000 psi Concrete Design Mix (≈35 MPa)

Typical per-m³ quantities for 5000 psi concrete for transfer slabs, high-rise columns and post-tensioned members. Indicative trial-mix starting point only. Final proportions must come from a lab trial mix (ACI 211.1) using your actual cement, sand and aggregate, approved by the consultant.

Reference standards: ACI 211.1, ACI 318, ASTM C494

    Mixing & application

    1. Get cement, sand, aggregate and admixture tested and approved before the trial for 5000 psi.
    2. Correct the water for aggregate moisture and absorption on the day of mixing.
    3. Batch by weight: aggregate, sand, cement, then 80% of water, admixture, remaining water.
    4. Mix in a drum or batching plant for at least 2 minutes until uniform.
    5. Check slump (target 125–150 mm) and temperature at the point of placing.
    6. Cast 6 cylinders (150×300 mm) per trial; test 3 at 7 days and 3 at 28 days.
    7. Target mean strength f'cr = f'c + 1.34s or f'c + 8.3 MPa when no history exists; adjust and repeat if short.

    Acceptance criteria

    • No single cylinder below f'c − 3.5 MPa.
    • Average of 3 consecutive tests ≥ 34.5 MPa.

    Health & safety

    • Wear PPE: helmet, safety shoes, gloves and eye protection.
